🔍 Property Description

Fantastic 27-hole golf course designed by English golf architect Terry Murray

Castro Marim occupies an elevated position, with magnificent views to the north, towards the ridge of hills which separates the Algarve from the province of the Alentejo. To the east, mighty Guadiana river forms the border with neighboring Spain, while the shimmering Atlantic may be seen to the south.

The courses have wonderful, elevated tees, sloping fairways, undulating greens and several water features and is a challenge for both the novice and the experienced golfer.

- The Guadiana and Atlântico courses, designed in 2001 by Bristol-based Terry Murray, are the most mature of the three courses, with attractive pine trees lining the fairways. The courses are teeming with wildlife, especially partridge in the winter months. Fast and true greens, several of them elevated and protected by bunkers, inviting elevated tees and dogleg fairways carved out of canyons are features of the courses.

- The Grouse is the newest of the three nine holes with the more open far-reaching inland hill views. Although it only opened in 2008 it is already nicely mature. It has rolling terrain with fewer trees than the other two courses.

The courses are teeming with wildlife including wild boar, birds and rabbits. Some lucky property owners have even spotted the elusive Iberian Lynx on The Grouse Course when playing early in the morning.

Global sustainability concerns

Castro Marim Golfe & Country Club has opted for increasingly responsible paths, namely the use of water from the wastewater treatment plant. Water for Reuse (ApR), which makes use of the water produced by the Wastewater Treatment has been used by the resort since 2023 and it’s been an added value which has already brought good results, as is already the case at other golf courses in the region and other countries. Not only water efficiency, but also energy efficiency, has been a priority focus in the resort's management. Managing the energy captured by the solar panels on the Clubhouse has been a priority for the resort, making it more self-sufficient. The energy produced by the panels is used to charge the buggies and supplement the Clubhouse's energy needs.
