Play at ‘the Wentworth* of Lisbon’ 

Winding through protected pine woodland, PGA Aroeira No. 1 immerses golfers in the heart of Portugal’s natural beauty – despite being just 30 minutes from Lisbon. A masterpiece from golfing icon Frank Pennink, the course opened in 1972 and was quickly christened ‘the Wentworth of Lisbon’ by visiting players. *The Wentworth Golf Club is a prestigious private golf club located near London, known as the headquarters of the PGA European Tour.

With the rebranding done in 2024, Aroeira became PGA National Portugal. It has the Exclusive PGA Branded Property Partner status for all Portugal - strictly limited to only one PGA National per country.

The par-72 course is a gripping challenge for even the most experienced golfers, demanding accuracy off the tee if you are to earn a low score. Surrounded by towering pine trees, Aroeira No. 1 rewards those who think before they shoot – and a variety of tee options ensure that players of all abilities can enjoy the course.

In 1996 and 1997, Aroeira No. 1 hosted the European Tour’s Portuguese Open before the prestigious European Men’s Club Trophy came to the course in 2013. Aroeira No. 1 is ranked in Golf World magazine’s latest list of the top 100 courses in continental Europe.

Renovation of the PGA Aroeira No.1

PGA Aroeira No.1 underwent extensive improvements aimed at enhancing both playability and sustainability, which included:

- Reduction of water consumption by 20% through the introduction of Bermuda grass on the fairways and bentgrass on the greens;

- Repair and lining of lakes to improve water retention and quality;

- Implementation of a more efficient irrigation system;

- Complete remodelinf of bunkers and refilling with new sand;

- Reconstruction of the tees boxes and cleaning of the surrounding landscape.
