On May 19-21, 2025, the IAGTO European Convention (IEC) took place in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands 🇪🇸 

👨🏻‍💻 The IAGTO European Convention (IEC) is one of the most significant gatherings in the golf tourism industry, attracting over 800 delegates from across Europe, Africa, and the Gulf States. The Convention is organized by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).

🌍 The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) is a global organization dedicated to promoting and growing the golf tourism industry.

  • Established in 1997, IAGTO has over 2,300 member companies across more than 94 countries, including golf tour operators, golf courses, resorts, and other industry stakeholders.

  • The IEC provides a platform for golf tour operators, golf tourism suppliers, golf destinations, and service providers to connect and discuss market developments.

  • The convention featured 2 days of pre-scheduled meetings, with delegates appreciating the opportunity to meet with relevant partners and establish new business relationships.

🏆 The European Awards, announced during the IEC, recognize outstanding contributions to golf tourism in Europe and Africa. These awards celebrate excellence in golf courses, resorts, and tour operators, highlighting their role in promoting golf tourism and enhancing the visitor experience.

    • ⛳️ Gran Canaria boasts 8 golf courses renowned for their quality and scenic beauty. These courses are spread across the island, providing golfers with diverse challenges and breathtaking views:

      • Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas (18 holes): as the oldest golf club in Spain, dating back to 1891, Real Club de Golf de Las Palmas offers a historic and traditional golfing experience. Located near the Bandama Caldera, the course features a relatively short but tight layout with undulating terrain and mature trees, demanding accuracy and strategic play.

      • Maspalomas Golf (18 holes): a classic resort course located near the famous Maspalomas Dunes, this relatively flat layout is known for its wide fairways and mature palm trees. Designed by Mackenzie Ross, Maspalomas Golf offers a pleasant and walkable experience, often influenced by the gentle sea breeze.

      • Anfi Tauro Golf (18 holes): set within a stunning volcanic landscape, Anfi Tauro offers a visually spectacular and challenging round. Designed by Von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, the course features dramatic ravines, strategically placed lakes, and lush greenery contrasting with the rugged terrain, providing a memorable experience for golfers of all levels.

      • Salobre Golf & Resort: featuring 2 courses, the Old Course designed by Roland Favré (18 holes) and the New Course (currently operating with 9 holes temporarily unavailable due to maintenance until April 2026), both offering stunning views and a variety of challenges.

      • Meloneras Golf by Lopesan (18 holes): situated along the southern coast, Meloneras Golf boasts breathtaking ocean views from several holes. Designed by Ron Kirby, the course features a diverse layout with challenging water hazards, dramatic elevation changes, and well-maintained greens, making it a favorite for both its beauty and its test of skill.

      • Las Palmeras Golf (18 holes, par 3 course): located in the capital city of Las Palmas, it offers a more accessible and quicker round, ideal for practice or those newer to the game, but still with well-maintained conditions.

      • El Cortijo Club de Campo (18 holes): designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin, El Cortijo is a unique course built on a former banana plantation. Featuring a diverse layout with lakes, palm trees, and volcanic features, it offers a pleasant and interesting round with a blend of challenging and more forgiving holes.
