🇺🇸 🏌🏽‍♂️ Sanderson Farms Championship – October 2-5, 2025 – The Country Club of Jackson, Mississippi • USA

October 2025: the Must-See Competitions on the PGA Tour
Mississippi is located in the southeastern region of the United States, bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Specifically, it's situated in the Deep South, with Tennessee to the north, Alabama to the east, Louisiana to the south and west, and Arkansas to the west. The western border of Mississippi is largely defined by the Mississippi River.

The tournament was founded in 1968 as the Magnolia Classic. For a long period (1968-1993), it was an "alternate event" (meaning it was played the same week as a major championship) held at Hattiesburg Country Club.

  • The tournament has had several name changes, including the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic, Southern Farm Bureau Classic and Viking Classic, before becoming the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2013. The tournament moved to its current home at The Country Club of Jackson in 2014.

  • 🐔Sanderson Farms is an American poultry producer based in Laurel, Mississippi. Founded in 1947, the company grew to become the 3rd largest poultry producer in the US, specializing in the production, processing, marketing and distribution of fresh and frozen chicken products.

  • 📐The Country Club of Jackson was founded in 1914 and, like many classic clubs, its golf course has evolved over the years. The original course was designed by Golden Age architect Tom Bendelow five miles west of town. The club moved to its current location in the late 1950s, where a new course was designed by Dick Wilson, which opened in 1964. However, the course we see today is largely the work of acclaimed architect John Fought, who completely redesigned the 18-hole championship layout in 2008

  • ⛳️The Country Club of Jackson actually features 27 holes, which are split into three nines: Dogwood, Azalea, and Cypress. The championship course for the PGA Tour's Sanderson Farms Championship is a combination of the Dogwood and Azalea nines.

  • It was upgraded to a full-status PGA Tour event for the 2019-2020 season, which brought with it all the benefits of a standard tour win, including a Masters invitation and a two-year exemption.

  • The tournament's charitable organization, Century Club Charities, has a long history of raising money for various causes, with a primary focus on the Children's of Mississippi Hospital.

  • 🏆Befitting a tournament sponsored by a poultry company, the winner receives a unique trophy: a beautiful cast bronze rooster named Reveille. The spirited, hand-painted trophy is a nod to Sanderson Farms' long history and connection to the state of Mississippi.

  • 🐊 The Country Club of Jackson is known for its beautiful and challenging course, but it's also home to a unique local wildlife population. Alligators are a frequent sight in the course's ponds, with as many as 10 to 15 living there. One resident, a large gator named "Fuzzy," is a favorite of fans and has been known to watch the pros play for years.

  • 💰 Purse: $6,000,000

  • 💯 FedExCup Fall PTS: 500 pts

  • Previous winner (2024): 🇹🇼 Kevin Yu ($1,368,000)

  • 🏆 Winner 2025: 🇺🇸 Steven Fisk ($1,080,000) - Age: 28 - Turned Pro in 2019

💡 Did you know that...

Steven Fisk earned his first PGA Tour victory at the 2025 Sanderson Farms Championship, firing an 8-under-par 64 on October 5, 2025, to finish at -24 (264 total). The 28-year-old rookie from Georgia capped his round with 3 consecutive birdies, surging past South Africa’s Garrick Higgo to win by two shots at The Country Club of Jackson. Fisk’s composed finish delivered one of the most exciting closes of the fall season and made him one of only a handful of PGA Tour rookies to capture a title in 2025.

A former Georgia Southern University All-American, Fisk earned his PGA Tour card through the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour and is known for his sharp iron play, honed during his childhood on his family’s par-3 course "Rum Creek Golf Course" in Stockbridge, Georgia. His breakthrough victory secured full Tour status through 2027 and immediate recognition as one of golf’s most promising new talents.

🇯🇵 🏌🏽‍♂️ Baycurrent Classic – October 9-12, 2025 – Yokohama Country Club, Yokohama • Japan

October 2025: the Must-See Competitions on the PGA Tour
Yokohama is a vibrant port city in Japan, known for its modern skyline, diverse culture, and historical significance as one of the first Japanese cities to open to foreign trade. Its Minato Mirai 21 district is particularly famous for its impressive waterfront development, featuring landmarks like the Landmark Tower and Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel.
  • "Baycurrent Classic" is the new name for an existing, and historically significant, PGA Tour event in Japan. The tournament was formerly known as the Zozo Championship. In 2025, Baycurrent, a Japanese consulting firm, took over the title sponsorship, and the tournament was renamed the Baycurrent Classic.

  • The tournament was founded in 2019 as the Zozo Championship. It holds a significant place in golf history as it was the first official PGA Tour event ever sanctioned in Japan.

  • The inaugural event in 2019 was won by Tiger Woods, which marked his 82nd career PGA Tour victory. This win tied him with Sam Snead for the all-time record for most PGA Tour wins.

  • The tournament was originally held at the Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Chiba, Japan. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 event was temporarily moved to Sherwood Country Club in California. In 2025, with the new sponsorship, the tournament moved to its current host course, Yokohama Country Club.

  • 📐The Yokohama Country Club was founded in 1960, and its two 18-hole courses, the East and the West, were originally designed by the owner, Takeo Aiyama. However, the West Course underwent a dramatic transformation in 2015 with a major renovation by the highly acclaimed American architectural team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. 🔍 A common feature on many Japanese courses is the use of two greens on each hole: one for summer and one for winter. As part of their 2015 renovation, Coore & Crenshaw removed this traditional feature from the West Course, replacing them with a single, modern green complex on each hole. This change was a significant modernization of the course's design and maintenance. Even before its modern redesign, the Yokohama Country Club's West Course was a host of major tournaments. It hosted the 1978 Japan Open, which was won by the legendary Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros. The course has also hosted the Japan Open multiple times since, further solidifying its reputation as a premier championship venue.

  • The tournament is co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and the Japan Golf Tour, allowing players from both tours to compete.

  • In addition to Tiger Woods' inaugural win, other notable winners include Japan's own Hideki Matsuyama (2021) and Collin Morikawa (2023).

  • 💰 Purse: $8,000,000

  • 💯 FedExCup Fall PTS: 500 pts

  • Previous winner (2024): 🇨🇴 Nico Echavarria ($1,530,000)

  • 🏆 Winner 2025: 🇺🇸 Xander Schauffele ($1,440,000) - Age: 31 - Turned Pro in 2015

Xander Schauffele’s victory at the 2025 Baycurrent Classic in Yokohama was as much a professional triumph as a deeply personal one. He closed with a final-round 7-under 64 to finish at 19-under 265, edging out 🇺🇸Max Greyserman by a single stroke. After entering Sunday tied with Greyserman at 12-under, Schauffele made decisive moves with birdies on the 14th and 17th holes to pull ahead, while Greyserman nearly forced a playoff by nearly holing a long approach on the 18th.🍾 This marked Schauffele’s 10th PGA Tour win and his first since his major victories in 2024.

💡 Did you know that...

🇯🇵 Schauffele has deep personal ties to Japan: his maternal grandparents live in Tokyo’s Shibuya ward, his mother grew up in Japan from the age of four, and his uncle serves as his manager.👵🏽 His 81-year-old grandmother walked all 18 holes with him during the final round and was present for the celebrations. The victory also capped a challenging year for Schauffele, who battled injury and inconsistent form.

🌍 Though born and raised in the U.S., Schauffele’s multicultural background connects him to multiple nationalities. Schauffele’s mother, Ping-Yi Chen, was born in Chinese Taipei but grew up in Japan, while his father, Stefan, is of German and French descent.

🥇 Schauffele won the gold medal for men’s individual golf at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021), finishing one shot ahead of Slovakia’s Rory Sabbatini. His Olympic triumph took place just 90 minutes from Yokohama, where he claimed his Baycurrent Classic victory.

🇺🇸 🏌🏽‍♂️ Bank of Utah Championship – October 23-26, 2025 – Black Desert Resort, Ivins, Utah • USA

October 2025: the Must-See Competitions on the PGA Tour
Ivins, Utah, is characterized by a stunning desert landscape featuring red rock formations, including those found in Snow Canyon State Park. The area offers panoramic views where the sky meets rugged plateaus and mountains, often painted with vibrant sunrise and sunset colors. It's known for its clean air, clear skies, and minimal light pollution, making it ideal for stargazing.
  • The Bank of Utah Championship is a PGA Tour event with a new name, having previously been known as the Black Desert Championship. The name change was announced in July 2025, with Bank of Utah becoming the title sponsor.

The course is set against a stunning backdrop of southern Utah's red rock mountains and black lava beds, providing one of the most visually distinctive settings on the PGA Tour schedule.

  • The event is committed to supporting local organizations and contributes to the PGA Tour's charitable mission, with a focus on strengthening local communities.

  • 🏆 The trophy for the Bank of Utah Championship is a distinctive piece that reflects the unique geology of its host course in Ivins, Utah. The trophy is a cast metal sculpture that incorporates the key elements of the Black Desert Resort's landscape: the black lava fields and the red rock canyons. It features a stylized depiction of a rock formation, with the top section resembling a golf ball resting on a tee. The trophy was first awarded to the inaugural winner of the tournament, Matt McCarty, in 2024.
