🌎⛳️ Golf boasts over 60 million enthusiasts swinging their clubs across more than 30,000 courses worldwide.
🇧🇷 🇯🇵 Golf's Olympic absence stretched back over a century before its resurgence at the 2016 Rio Games in Brazil. After featuring in 1900 and 1904, the sport was contested again at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
At the Olympic Games, golfers compete in stroke play. This format emphasizes completing an 18-hole course in the fewest strokes possible, with a total of 4 rounds played over 4 days. The golfer who accumulates the least number of strokes across all rounds emerges victorious. One of the main concerns surrounding golf’s inclusion in the Olympics is its format. Unlike traditional golf tournaments, the Olympic format (72-hole stroke play with a limited field of 60 players for both the men’s and women’s events) has received criticism for not being representative of the true spirit of golf, which is often played in different formats such as match play or team events.
🇫🇷 For the Paris 2024 Olympics, the golf competition is scheduled to be held during the period of August 1st to the 10th at Le Golf National, a European golfing giant since 1991, renowned for hosting champions and legendary tournaments like the French Open and the Ryder Cup (2018).
⛳️ Some facts & figures about 'Le Golf National':

location: West of Paris, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (41km distance from the Olympic Village),
120 players (men's : 1 tournament 60 players / women's : 1 tournament 60 players),
capacity: 32,720 people (2,720 seated and 30,000 standing),
it took 3 years of dedication to turn this vast, flat expanse (139 hectares) into a remarkable golfing venue. Boasting two 18-hole courses ('L'Albatros' et 'l'Aigle') and a beginner-friendly 7-hole option ('L'Oiselet'), it caters to all skill levels,
Golf National champions sustainability. Partnering with France's Ministry of Ecology, they're enhancing environmental practices and preserving the site's heritage,
in 2022, the French Golf Federation (FFG) inaugurated a training centre at the Golf National for top-level players and future champions.

💡 The Olympic motto actually has two parts!
The original part is "Citius, Altius, Fortius" which is Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger." This motto emphasizes striving for excellence and achieving personal bests in sports.
In 2021, the International Olympic Committee added "Together" to the motto. So the full motto now reads "Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter" which translates to "Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together." This addition highlights the importance of solidarity and teamwork in the Olympic spirit.
